Those were the days and those were the birthdays

When every activity was fun indoor

and evenings were spent playing outdoors.

When wounds were easy to heal…

earning extra five bucks for pocket money was a big deal.

Those were the days and those were the birthdays.

When friends were so easy to make,

when we wanted more candles on our cake.

Wishes came true just by lightening them up and blowing

Without any hurdle, blissfully life kept flowing.

Nights were spent questioning, why it keeps following, looking above at the moon.

We were all in a hurry, we wanted to grow up so soon.

Those were the days and those were the birthdays.

When gifts were simple and beautiful like rockets and chariots.

With days, wishes got fancier, from friends at home we switched to evenings in marriotts.

When decisions were simple, we never bothered about outcomes or possibility.

Now, every single candle adds another responsibility.

Those were the days and those were the birthdays.

When for playing games on streets we used to poll

Within these some golden years life played its role.

Why did we all grow up so fast?

With the memories that will forever last.

Those were the birthdays, we all wanted to grow up.

Here’s to another birthday when I don’t want to grow up.
